Unscripted Movement

What's in a Name?

It’s 12:22pm on a Thursday, and I’m at my office job doing my data science-y things. I like to take work breaks that invigorate my mind and body, so I’m using this break to work through a question.

I’ve been wondering: How do I make it clear and obvious what Unscripted Movement is? I’m aware that it’s not the kind of name that immediately conveys an image in your head.

I was watching a YouTube video of a young woman with a microphone on the streets of New York City, who would stop female entrepreneurs and ask them for advice on how they found success with their visions. The entrepreneurs who founded Puppy Yoga credited their success to how easily their name stuck with people. You hear Puppy Yoga, and you immediately have a visual of what it is. And you have a starting point to get curious about it. It’s sticky.

I’m not sure if Unscripted Movement is sticky, but the way I paint the picture can be.

My new friend Anna has a sales background and used the word relevant when I was soundboarding this challenge with her. How do we make Unscripted Movement relevant to whoever I’m talking to? How do we get them to visualize where they’re at right now, where they want to be, and how Unscripted Movement can help them get there?

I have many questions, and although I could come up with a stickier name, I do love this name so much.

“Unscripted” evokes the power of supportive structures that guide us, rather than rigid scripts that limit us. It conveys a level of improvisation and discovery. “Movement” conveys the internal shifts that occur when we move our external bodies. It’s a force that helps us get unstuck.

There’s a “mind-body” component to it. There’s a “somatic” component to it. There’s a “connectedness” to it. I’m still searching for the right words.

What does the name “Unscripted Movement” evoke to you? Please let me know, and I’ll continue to workshop how to bring this elusive concept of “Unscripted Movement” down to the ground.
